Sugar

Unfortunately, this label does not delineate which sugars are natural and which are added. If you're worried about sugar, added sugars are worth paying attention to. Dietary Guidelines suggest no more than 10% of our diet come from added sugars. This video (made for upper elementary-aged students) explains the difference between added and natural sugars.


Calories

I know someone out there is going to look at the calories and be like "whoa", but we really need to get away from that. Yes, you're probably not going to eat this as a quick snack; but as a meal, it's absolutely perfect.


Gut Microbiome Connection

The great thing about this smoothie in regards to gut microbiome health is that it attends to the needs of a healthy biome without even trying.

  1. Because it is high in fiber, it gives all of the microorganisms plenty of work to do which helps increase their population.

  2. The range of fruits and veggies help encourage diversity as different bacteria are needed to break down different foods.

  3. The yogurt provides probiotics (bacteria) that help supplement our microorganism population.
